As we end September and begin October, we move into the “Cast ‘n Blast” season. Already some anglers have combined fishing with the hunting of Woodcock, but Saturday signals the opening of grouse and duck season. Generally, there has not been a Fall run yet, but in the last week or so, there have been slight increases in the number of fish coming in, and they are fresh fish with sea lice.

First a caution: Don’t forget that this week is moose season and hunters will be out in full force in pursuit of the Swamp Donkeys, so wear some hunter orange when out and off the beaten track. Take care using moose-hair flies in case some crack-shot sees one in the air.

Angling for Late August continues to be quite positive, particularly on the Main Southwest Miramichi. Rain Wednesday evening and Thursday should keep water levels and temperatures right for fishing. Depending on the amounts of rain, it may take a day or two for most pools to be fishable.

Last week was a pretty good one for fishing, particularly on the Southwest Miramichi where many anglers limited out. Rain early this week brought the water levels up, but conditions should be very good for the weekend. There are reports on good numbers of fish around.
