Uptown Mugs #42: Hance Colburne

Many of us start our weekdays the same way; we pry ourselves out of bed, shower, coffee … and perhaps tune in to CBC Information Morning. Hance Colburne is one of the charming hosts of this morning show that highlights local stories that raise our eyebrows, spur our thoughts or invite a welcome smile to begin our day. Not often do we see the faces behind the radio, but this sharp dressed man deserves a little visual attention. After all, he “wakes up at 3:30 am so we don’t have to.”

Let’s get to know Hance …

Where were you born? Where are you from?

I was born in the Hub of Nova Scotia, Truro, but spent most of my childhood in the Heart of the Valley, Middleton, Nova Scotia. I like to be at the centre of things.

How long have you been a part of the uptown scene?

We have been Uptown for about 3 years now. It was an exciting move for the CBC, after almost 35 years on Main. I spend considerably more money now than in our previous location.

Who do you look to for inspiration?

Inspiration now comes from my kids. I look to them to think about the future, enjoy the present, and remember the wonders of the past.

What is your favourite season, and why?

I am a big fan of autumn. I think it is the time of new beginnings. New school year. New radio season. And I prefer temperatures where I have to bring a sweater.

What is your ultimate favourite snack food?
Popcorn. Done and done.

Coffee, tea, or other?

Yes.  Is there a pot on?

Any pets?

Nope.

Most guilty pleasure?

Binge watching shows when I should be sleeping.

Worst habit?

Napping. More than I should.

What is your Uptown Insider Tip?

Java Moose’s Red Eye will give you the kick in the ticker (and the behind) to keep your step lively as you hike up King Street.
