Miramichi Fishing Report for Thursday, July 6, 2017
The Coalition for Better Salmon Management, (CBSM), has put out a press release calling on DFO to reinstate Grilse harvest tags for the balance of the 2017 salmon fishing season. Numbers of fish in the Miramichi system continue to improve slightly.

Salmon and a few grilse are moving slowly into the system with a few each day, but no run to speak of. There are also good numbers of shad now in the river. Gradually, the striped bass are dispersing from the spawning grounds to other rivers and bays in the Gulf region.

There is a mixed report this week, with still some spring salmon around, a few trout starting and an increase in striped bass numbers. The water has dropped nicely and has cleared from last week’s deluge. Lakes and ponds in NB are now officially open for angling.

This week was pretty slow for angling and pretty fast for all rivers in the system. Last weekend’s rain brought rivers to extremely levels, some not seen here in many years. Not only were they high, but they were raging beyond flood stages.
