End-of-Season Miramichi Fishing Report
With the season over it is time to start on next year. An excellent first step toward a successful 2017 season begins today by properly putting equipment away and getting repairs done so all is ready for next April 15. The wise angler will take a few minutes to examine his equipment and properly prepare it for winter storage.

By this time next week another angling season will officially be completed for another year. Salmon angling on the Bartibog, Burnt Church and Tabusintac Rivers closes at the end of Saturday, October 29, and striped bass closes at the end of Monday October 31.

As we end September and begin October, we move into the “Cast ‘n Blast” season. Already some anglers have combined fishing with the hunting of Woodcock, but Saturday signals the opening of grouse and duck season. Generally, there has not been a Fall run yet, but in the last week or so, there have been slight increases in the number of fish coming in, and they are fresh fish with sea lice.

Angling for Late August continues to be quite positive, particularly on the Main Southwest Miramichi. Rain Wednesday evening and Thursday should keep water levels and temperatures right for fishing. Depending on the amounts of rain, it may take a day or two for most pools to be fishable.

Last week was a pretty good one for fishing, particularly on the Southwest Miramichi where many anglers limited out. Rain early this week brought the water levels up, but conditions should be very good for the weekend. There are reports on good numbers of fish around.

Generally, angling is slow with warm water, and pool closures still in effect. Doug White’s Tammerack Sports Fly Shop in Juniper said the fishing was slow and then it stopped. Seems to be a few fish around but the water is low and warm and with the possible exception of a local or two, the river is vacant.

July is proving to have some fresh fish moving through each day, with a few days producing very good numbers, especially on the Southwest Miramichi. Generally, the fish are moving rather than holding.
