The Canadian Red Cross is looking for new volunteers to join its various disaster
Saint John Team Leader Christy Jacquard says there is certain criteria you must meet.
These include be at least 19 years old, have a valid driver’s licence, and a clear criminal reference check.
You must also complete first aid and other specialized disaster training the Red Cross provides free of charge.
Finally you must be available to help 24 hours a day on a rotating schedule.
Jacquard says you then help out locally and in real major events can be deployed elsewhere, in the province or if you are able across the country.
Over the holidays the Saint John Disaster Team dealt with a house fire and a carbon monoxide leak and provided food, clothing and lodging assistance over 72 hours.
