Drawing Basics at Saint John Arts Centre

Join Maggie Higgins for a fun and informative overview of Drawing Basics at the Saint John Arts Centre! This class is ideal for beginners who’ve always wanted to try drawing or intermediate students who are eager to hone their skills. It is designed to develop your hand and eye in traditional skills and ideas that have occupied artists throughout history. Each week will cover exercises in with an emphasis on space, volume, linear and free hand perspective, introduction to portraiture, and other basic techniques and concepts. Maggie’s class offers individual guidance and on-site demonstrations of techniques.

Supplies: Students should bring to the first class – a sketchbook (not too small), HB pencil, 4B pencil, a quality eraser, and a 12″ (30cm) ruler.

About the instructor: Maggie Higgins is a multimedia artist based in Saint John, New Brunswick. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction from Mount Allison University in 2014 and a Bachelor of Education with Distinction from the University of New Brunswick in 2016. She now teaches at the Saint John Arts Centre and in the public school system as well as serving as Vice President of Third Space Gallery.
