Sea Dogs Select Russian F Alexander Vdovenko in CHL Import Draft

SJseadogsAlexanderVdovenkoThe Saint John Sea Dogs have selected Russian forward Alexander Vdovenko 42nd overall in the 2016 CHL Import Draft. The 17-year-old from Moscow is 6’4″ and 200 lbs. and plays centre and left wing.

Vdovenko (pronounced “doh-VEHN-koh”) posted nine goals and 24 points in 34 games last season with the Vityaz Podolsk Under-17 team in Russia.

Sea Dogs General Manager, Darrell Young, worked with Vdovenko’s agent, Alexei Dementiev, for 15 years with the NHL’s Washington Capitals and Nashville Predators.

“We’re excited to bring Alexander into our organization,” Young said. “He’s a smart, skilled, strong forward. He moves very well for a player of his size. We want to see how his game translates to North American ice.”

Vdovenko is expected to join the Sea Dogs for training camp this month.
