Summit on Economic Inclusion held in Saint John

Premier Brian Gallant hosted an Opportunities Summit on Monday in Saint John to discuss economic and social inclusion of all New Brunswickers in the province’s economy.

“Every individual has the potential to contribute to the economy in a variety of ways whether through the labour force, social enterprise or supporting local businesses,” said Gallant. “We need to lift people out of poverty to help them reach their full potential and to improve the New Brunswick economy.”

Discussions focused on the annual indexation of the minimum wage, the promotion of inclusion in the workplace and the support of local businesses and social enterprises to facilitate economic and social inclusion.

“Breaking down barriers by supporting workplace environments and local businesses to better promote inclusion is essential to take advantage of the opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs for New Brunswickers,” said Ed Doherty, minister responsible for the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation.

A series of Opportunities Summits are taking place around the province to identify new prospects for creating jobs and economic growth. The opportunities identified will be reviewed and evaluated for development as part of an economic action plan for the province.
