Winter 2025-2026 Is On Its Way! Know The Rules For Overnight Parking In Saint John
As the snow season approaches, residents are reminded that on-street parking is permitted during the winter months unless a parking ban is declared by the City or restricted by signage and the Motor Vehicle Act.
There are two types of temporary overnight parking bans in Saint John:
- North, East, and West Temporary Overnight Parking Ban: Declared when snow clearing is required in these areas.
- South-Central Peninsula Temporary Overnight Parking Ban: Declared separately when snow clearing is required in the South-Central Peninsula.
Timing of bans:
- In the South-Central Peninsula, bans are typically declared the day after a snow event.
- In the North, East, and West, bans are usually declared two days after a storm, allowing crews to push snow back to the curb more effectively.
Whenever a parking ban is in effect, the public will be notified. These measures help ensure safe, efficient snow removal and keep our streets clear and accessible throughout the winter.
Stay Informed About Parking Bans
The City of Saint John will notify residents whenever a parking ban is declared. Updates will be shared on www.saintjohn.ca, through local media, and on the City’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts.

How to Prepare for Parking Bans
Residents are responsible for securing off‑street parking and staying informed about when parking bans are declared.
- North, East, and West neighbourhoods: If you rely on on‑street parking, you must arrange alternate off‑street parking during a ban.
- South‑Central Peninsula: Three designated off‑street lots will be available for overnight parking only when a ban is in effect. For the full list of lots and details on parking bans, please visit here.
