Number 6 Firehouse

Number 6 Firehouse is the oldest active fire station in Saint John. Serving the Lower West Side since 1852, it was originally home to the #7 Company, established to protect Guys Ward and the citizens of Carleton. Today, Engine 6—also known as “The Pride of Carleton”—continues to serve the community.

As fire engines evolved from horse-drawn to mechanical, the apparatus floor had to be lowered to accommodate the newer trucks. In 1931, Station 6 proudly received one of the city’s first mechanical fire trucks.

Through generations of change, Station 6 remains a symbol of the deep tradition and pride that our members hold for this profession. #SJFFs#ProtectingSJ
