National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week – Dan Forbes

Dan Forbes is one, among many, of our incredible Public Safety Telecommunicators in Saint John. He has been with the Public Safety Communications Centre since its inception in 1995. He has been an operator, trainer, acting supervisor and supervisor. His leadership, both formal and informal, within the Centre has made him a role model for his colleagues and his knowledge base, which he always willingly shares, has made him an integral resource for his peers and managers alike. Dan has announced his upcoming retirement in June. We would like to thank him for his 27 years of service to the citizens of Saint John and beyond.

“The first year that I had to work on Christmas Eve, I received a 911 call from a couple who were babysitting their grandchildren.  One of their grandchildren, an infant, stopped breathing for no apparent reason.  While the ambulance was responding, I was able to give the caller the instructions needed to get and keep the child breathing until the ambulance arrived.  The child was transported to the hospital and made a full recovery.  I called it my Christmas gift that year.” Dan Forbes
