Fraud Alert – Bail Scam

It is Fraud Prevention Month and the Saint John Police Fraud Unit would like to alert the public of an on-going bail scam targeting residents in our area.

The scam typically involves a fraudster calling and identifying themselves as a relative, police officer or lawyer.

The fraudster claims that the victim’s relative has been arrested and asks the victim to send the fraudster bail money.

The fraudster tells the victim that they should not talk to anyone else about the arrest.

If you should receive a call from anyone asking you to send money, hang up and call police.

The Saint John Police receives over 100 complaints related to telephone and internet scams each year.
