Faces Of The SJFD,

Faces of the SJFD, by Lieutenant Marc Carey…
Captain Frank MacKinnon (Ret.), his son in law Senior Firefighter Terry Cropley, and Grandson Josh Cropley. MacKinnon, originally from Bathurst NB graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1975. In ‘77 he was selected to be one of Saint John’s firefighters. Among other accomplishments Frankie was an original member of the Local 771 Pipe band drum corps and a founding member of one of the finest Saint John Firefighters hockey teams in our history. 😁 In 2012 he retired as the Captain of LadderTower 1 after serving in every company in the City. Terry, (who married Frank and life partner Roseanne’s daughter Krista), was born and raised in East SJ and graduated from St. Macs in 1985. He then worked as a steel fabricator with the Canadian Frigate Program from 1988 to 1997 when he was hired by the SJFD. Since that time his whole career has been spent at headquarters where he is a qualified Lieutenant and member of both the Regional HazMat and technical rescue teams. Following in Frank’s footsteps, Crop is now the Pipe Sergeant with the band and has become an accomplished player. It was in November of 1998, while on duty, he got the call from Krista that their first child Josh was coming into the world (followed by younger bro Jake who just began his third year of business at UNBSJ). Josh went on to attend Rothesay High where he was the captain of the hockey team in his senior year in 2017. In 2018 he graduated from the Holland College Fire Academy and joined the SJFD later that year. Like his Dad and Dap, Josh has established a reputation as a solid firefighter and his ability to drive a golf ball a country mile has become legendary already! Captain MacKinnon, and firefighters Cropley and Cropley make three generations of hard work, compassion, grit and humble service to the citizens of Saint John. We couldn’t be prouder…..
