The association representing west Saint John businesses has stepped in to save the uptown Santa Claus parade.
Its future was in jeopardy after long-time organizer, Uptown Saint John, stepped aside in January, saying the parade does not align with its objectives.
But the Saint John Lancaster Business Association, which also runs the Lancaster Santa Claus Parade, has stepped in to fill the void.
“The uptown Santa Claus parade has been the forerunner for all the parades in this province,” says executive director Blaine Harris. “It’s important to keep traditions alive.”
Harris says the uptown parade will still look and feel the same — the only difference will be who’s organizing it.
“It’ll still be the same flavour, the same style of parade that they’ve had uptown,” he says. “We don’t want to come uptown and paint it with our brush. We want to continue on the successes that they’ve had.”
The uptown parade has been going on for 65 years
