As we move into September, we are looking for a good Fall run. The only stumbling block is the lack of rain. We did get some this week, with more in the forecast. If we get the amounts predicted, it should spur the fishing, as water temperatures are good.

Water temperatures have improved this week, resulting in a few more fish being in the taking mode. However, we still have had no significant rain to improve the water levels. Having said that, I’m sure Houston would gladly share if they could. Our sympathies go out to them in this time of crisis.

Generally, there are some fish in the system, both fresh and old. The night-time water temperatures are the saving grace for the fish as most rivers, particularly the tributaries, are extremely low. I won’t complain about the little rain.

With the cold-water pool closures now lifted, and very few anglers on the rivers, I will do a summary report this week. Fortunately, temperatures both during the day and night have been cooler. However, the rivers remain low, and we need a good day’s rain to really improve things.

Once again this week, there is a slight improvement in the number of fish coming into the system, but still no great run. However, if slow and steady wins the race, we’ll take it. One concern is the striped bass which are spreading further and further up the river systems than ever before.
