The City Is Seeking Public Input To Determine A Policy Direction For Heavy Trucking In The Central Peninsula

The purpose of MoveSJ, the City’s master transportation plan, is to create a balanced transportation network. MoveSJ takes an integrated approach to transportation incorporating factors such as parking, active transportation and transit, as well as the movement of cars and trucks. MoveSJ also guides infrastructure planning and investments for streets and sidewalks.

We are now seeking input to answer a policy question asked in MoveSJ. Are we are balanced in how much limited space on streets in the Central Peninsula is allotted to movement of heavy trucks? Should access by heavy trucks in the Central Peninsula be reduced to benefit other priorities of MoveSJ?

Considerations could include:

  • Limiting the size of trucks (to smaller than a Transport truck with 53-foot trailer)
  • Limiting the hours during which trucks can operate
  • Limiting the size of loading zones in the area

We want to hear from city residents, businesses and other stakeholders to help inform Common Council’s decision when considering a potential policy direction.

More information and the survey, is available here.

Paper copies of the survey are also available at the City’s Customer Service Centre at City Hall.

The survey will close on November 12, 2025.
