The City of Saint John would like to advise the public of the following traffic interruption that will begin August 27 on the Main Street Viaduct ramp to Route 1 Westbound. This work is necessary to complete work within the ramp for the Main Street Active Transportation Project.

Street: Route 1 Westbound

Date:  August 27, 2025

Duration:  Three (3) days

Time: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Direction: Westbound

Action: Closed to through traffic. The ramp will be open overnight.

Specific area: Westbound on-ramp to Route 1 from Main Street Viaduct

Description of work: Infrastructure upgrades

Motorists are asked to use alternative routes to Route 1 such as Garden Street/Paradise Row and Crown Street/ the One Mile Interchange, when possible.

Road signage and sidewalk directional signage will be in place. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and be aware of pedestrians and workers. Delays should be expected.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) and Gateway Operations will also be performing maintenance on the ramp during the road closure.
