Saint John Water Advising Residents Of A Planned Watermain Shutdown

As part of the ongoing McAllister Drive Watermain Replacement Project, Saint John Water will be conducting a planned overnight watermain shutdown beginning Friday, September 5 at 9:00 p.m. until 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6. This shutdown is necessary to safely complete a critical phase of the infrastructure upgrade.

Water service will be temporarily interrupted overnight for approximately 800 properties in the Forest Hills area.

To determine if your property will be affected by the shutdown, please consult the interactive map linked here.

We recommend storing water for essential use during this time and ensuring all taps are turned off.

This shutdown is necessary as the existing watermain is a vital part of Saint John’s drinking water system, serving thousands of homes and businesses and supporting three pressure zones. Due to repeated failures and signs of deterioration, this section is being proactively replaced to prevent future disruptions and maintain reliable service for years to come.

Following the shutdown, a boil water order will be issued by the Department of Health to ensure the water is safe to consume following reinstatement. Residents in the affected area should be prepared to boil water for drinking, cooking, and brushing teeth until further notice. The City will provide updates and notify residents when the order is lifted. Safety services including Saint John Fire have also been notified of the shutdown as it will affect fire hydrants in the area.

Saint John Water will be delivering notices to local businesses, apartment buildings, churches, schools and daycares and we would also ask the public to share this information with anyone who uses water in the affected area who may have missed this notification.

We understand that this could be an inconvenience for some. We appreciate the understanding of all those affected as we work to improve our water infrastructure. For more information about this project, please visit www.shapeyourcitysaintjohn.ca.
