Public Safety Alert – Imitation Firearms

The Saint John Police would like to raise public awareness about the dangers and law as it relates to imitation firearms.

The Saint John Police have increasingly encountered incidents involving imitation firearms such as airsoft, BB or pellet guns. Using an imitation firearm during the commission of an offence or for a dangerous purpose can result in additional criminal charges. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, an imitation firearm is an object that is found to resemble a firearm and includes a replica firearm. This photograph includes examples of imitation firearms recently seized by the Saint John Police.

Imitation firearms can present serious safety issues for the public and the police. Some imitation firearms are almost indistinguishable from a real firearm, especially from a distance, at quick glance or in high stress situations.

The Saint John Police encourages members of the public to use imitation firearms responsibly and to not show them in public.
