Meet Firefighter Adam McIllwraith

Saint John Firefighter Adam McIllwraith…..Adam joined the SJFD as part of the 2018 recruit class. A former Saint John Vito’s AAA hockey player he went on to play junior as a captain with the Campbellton Tigers. There he met his future Wife and was also offered a scholarship to Acadia University. As an Axeman, he played 5 years varsity hockey before graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Following the migration west, McIllwraith attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology where he achieved both his red and blue seals as a Steamfitter-Pipefitter journeyman. Working in the trades but with the ultimate dream of returning east and joining the SJFD Adam also worked one summer for the Government of Alberta as a wildland rappel firefighter. In February, Adam and his Wife’s family grew as they celebrated the arrival of their first child, a beautiful baby boy.
At this time, Adam is one of 9 members laid off as a result of personnel reductions and we eagerly await he and his classmates return. Humble, dedicated and committed to serving the people of Saint John, Adam and his colleagues are the future of the department. We are proud of our newest members and are grateful the job is in such good hands.
