Province to host national summit for LGBTQ youth

New Brunswick has been selected to host OUTShine, Canada’s LGBTQ youth summit.

The bi-annual summit is presented by Egale Canada Human Rights Trust, which made the announcement at this year’s summit in Windsor, Ontario.

“We are pleased to have been chosen to host this important event that celebrates our LGBTQ youth,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Brian Kenny. “This is a chance to showcase the great work our province is doing in the area of inclusive education. It also ties to a key objective in our 10-year education plans to ensure all learners value diversity and have a strong sense of belonging.”

Egale is Canada’s only national charity promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans human rights through research, education and community engagement.

The three-day summit will take place in Fredericton in the spring of 2019, and will bring together students and teacher facilitators from across Canada.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has partnered with Egale since 2011 to promote LGBTQ inclusive education in New Brunswick.
