Janet Kidd Directing Heading Home

On Monday May 2nd Canadians from coast-to-coast will take time out of their day to call attention to the vital role music plays in their lives, their communities and in their schools. Saint John’s Sea Belles of Harmony, Inc., will be participating in this coast to coast music video podcast.

Sea Belles’ music video submission, Heading Home, is an a cappella barbershop arrangement written by Sea Belles’ Director, Janet Kidd. In the accompanying video message, Ms. Kidd, who has been directing the chorus for 23 years, shared her thoughts about the importance of music. “ We get such a powerful feeling of strength and fellowship (when we sing), and excitement when a chord rings beautifully. It’s a real joy.”

Sea Belles, Atlantic Canada’s number one ladies’ a cappella chorus, is one of few Canadian community choruses participating in the coast to coast event, and one of only a few New Brunswick submissions. Hundreds of video submissions to the nation-wide celebration, depicting how music lives where they live, were received from schools, music groups and communities.

Music Monday 2016 will be led by a Showcase Concert webcast live from Toronto’s City Hall at Nathan Phillips Square. This one-hour concert will feature special musical guests, including Music Monday Anthem composer Connor Ross, who will be joined by Youth4Music Ambassadors on the Showcase stage to lead the nation in a simultaneous sing-along of his song “We Are One”. A live stream of the showcase celebration at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips will be available at www.musicmonday.ca from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. ET.

A full day webcast of video performances and messages submitted from across the nation as part of the  Music Monday – Coast2Coastincluding Sea Belles,  will air throughout the day on Monday, May 2nd at www.musicmonday.ca.

Music Monday is an annual initiative of The Coalition for Music Education, an organization made up of parents, students, educators, and business people from varying walks of life who support school music programs and highlight the importance of music education for all young people in Canada. For the past 11 years six million Canadians have gathered annually in schools and communities to participate in Music Monday, a coast-to-coast initiative designed to celebrate the power of music in our lives, especially our schools.

A 51 voice chorus, Sea Belles is a 47 year chapter of Harmony, Inc., a volunteer international, nonprofit and educational organization for women singers. Its purpose is to empower all women through education, friendship and a cappella singing in the barbershop style. Sea Belles welcomes women 14 years and older who love to sing.
