UNB Named One of Canada’s Top Research Universities

Research Infosource Inc. recently released Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities and UNB is one of the top Atlantic Canadian Universities to make the list.

UNB was named Canada’s most entrepreneurial university by Startup Canada and a large part of that can be attributed to the strength and reach of the research happening here at UNB says David Burns, UNB’s vice-president (research).

“When we talk about entrepreneurship at UNB, we’re not only talking about creating businesses, this also involves social entrepreneurship, which is the act of creating opportunities for yourself and those around you,” said Dr. Burns. “Entrepreneurship is part of our cultural fabric. We have had 235 research projects funded within the past two years and our researchers are partners with NASA to develop crater impact technologies, they’re world leaders in developing MRI technology, powered prosthetic limbs, traditional plant-based medicines and the list goes on.”

UNB may be Canada’s oldest English-language university, but they’re also innovative—housing six centres devoted to innovation and entrepreneurship and launching dozens of startups in the past few years.

RESEARCH Infosource Inc. is Canada’s Source of R&D Intelligence. Each year, they publish Canada’s Innovation Leaders – the premier national print vehicle shining the spotlight on research and development at the country’s most innovative universities, corporations, hospitals and colleges – and Canada’s Innovation Leaders: Annual Innovation Guide.
